This 6 hour program is for children age 10 and up. It provides training in the business of babysitting, proper supervision, safety and injury prevention, basic care giving skills and responding properly to ill or injured children and infants. We will also cover first aid, choking, bleeding, CPR and AED training.
This course is a great learning experience for children even if they are not ready to start babysitting yet. It may be beneficial for children with younger sibling or children who are home alone on occasion. It is never too early to start learning safety!
We will spend the day in the classroom learning the theory of these topics as well as practising hands on skills. We will learn through interactive games and role playing. A pizza lunch, healthy snack, and juice box will be provided for all students.
Legality of Babysitting
Many experts feel that 14 is generally an appropriate age to begin babysitting, but maturity, responsibility and the ability to react effectively in care of an emergency must always be considered regardless of age. There is no law that says what minimum age a person must be before they can babysit, however it is against the law for a person to babysit during school hours that is under the age of 16 without permission from their school principle. Parents have the responsibility to decide how old a babysitter they hire should be and it is their responsibility to hire someone who can look after their children properly. In most cases labour laws do not apply to babysitting on a short term basis.
